Live Music at Lake Tahoe and Truckee 2020
Like me, you are probably missing the Live Music in the Park series of summers past at Lake Tahoe and Truckee. Visitors are discovering many ways to enjoy the area safely in the midst of the pandemic. However, nothing compares to joining friends on a blanket under the stars to hear live music.
Tahoe City Music on the Beach
The North Tahoe Business association has moved the Tahoe City Music on the Beach series to an online venue. While this cannot take the place of live music, it does have an upside. You can actually view all previous performances on their website. Visit this link to watch this summer's previous shows.
On August 28th from 6:30 to 8:30, you can tune into Music on the Beach: Virtual Vibes 2020 and listen to Sneaky Creatures. They are a mischievous alt-gypsy swing septet from Kings Beach. We've seen them creeping around the North Lake Tahoe music scene since 2011 with their unusual blend of rock, jazz, and dixieland funk. This lineup of seasoned Tahoe musicians come together to create a sound that is at once unique and original, and also strangely familiar.
The Real Deal - Live Music at Lake Tahoe
Never fear - a few local restaurants and bars have expanded their outdoor areas to safely provide dining and yes, live music! Below is a list where you can still find live music venues at Lake Tahoe and Truckee.
Cottonwoods Restaurant Truckee
10142 Rue Hilltop, Truckee, CA
Sep 5 and 6th George Souza (Two Shows!)
Located on the hillside, overlooking dowtown Truckee, Cottonwoods was once one of the nation’s oldest ski lodges, and was hand built from salvaged railroad ties in 1928. It is decorated with longboard skis, toboggans, sleds, and of course a pair of crutches. On September 5th and 6th, George Souza will be playing on the deck during brunch from 11:30 to 3:00. His music is a mix of blues, jazz and worldbeat and I know many people will be excited to see him return.
Lounge on the Cottonwoods deck where they are serving brunch on Saturdays and Sundays 11-2pm. You can also hear live music from 11:30 to 3pm. Visit their website for more event information.

While this is not your usual entertainment, it has a good cause and is perfect if you are a closet poet. They offer an open call for singers, actors, dancers and performers of any kind! This event will be hosted by Chauncey Parker. Please come out and support the Tahoe Truckee School of Music and Art Truckee. All are welcome! Beer & Wine will be sold at Art Truckee’s Bar. Alibi Ale Works has an outside beer garden and offers live music from 5 to 7pm. On Tuesday August 25 they are featuring Honaywax ~ Live at their Truckee Public House.
HonayWax is the vinyl DJ Team of Pooh HonayPot. They are partners in life & the love of music. Their vibes include the sound mixes of house, techno and old school rock, disco, hip-hop, R&B, funk, and soul for a grooving good time! Visit their Facebook Page for more information about HonayWax. Music Under the Tent Thursday-Saturday

The building where the Bar of America is located has had many faces throughout the years. Prior to 1891, early photos show a stove and tin-ware shop. Following a fire in 1891, a four-story Victorian hotel was built and since then, it has been the downtown Truckee bus station and yes, even a Bank of America! In 1974 Jack Leonesio leased the building and opened the Bar of America. For over 40 years now, the Bar of America has been recognized as the iconic watering hole in historic downtown Truckee. It is now part of Tom Turner's (Garwoods) many great restaurants around Lake Tahoe.
The Bar of America offers a place to relax outside with live music every Friday and Saturday night in beautiful downtown Truckee. Music starts around 9:00 PM and the restaurant is open for lunch and dinner. Due to restrictions placed on indoor dining by the governor, please call the restaurant for reservations, 530.587.2626.
Garwoods Restaurant Kings Beach
Friday and Saturday 7:00 - 10 pm
Located in Kings Beach overlooking beautiful Lake Tahoe, Garwoods has been offering live music on their outdoor deck. Every Friday and Saturday night from 7-10pm, grab a wet woody and sing along with Rustler's Moon outside on the deck. No cover. Enjoy great music, delicious food, frosty Wet Woodys and good company on the lake! Visit their website for more information.
